BOOKS

The British Heart Foundation have Book Recycling Points at the Edinburgh Community Recycling Centres and three of the Borders Community Recycling Centres. See Community Recycling Centres Edinburgh or See Community Recycling Centres in the Scottish Borders. CDs, DVDs, tapes and videos can also be taken to these Book Recycling Points.

Oxfam also have Book Recycling Points at some Recycling Points. See Recycling Points In Edinburgh.

Libraries in the Lothians accept donations of books in good condition. Phone your local library or the Central Library in Edinburgh (Tel: 0131 242 8000).

Many charity shops will accept donations of books in good condition (See CHARITY SHOPS) and some have shops specifically for books (See Charity Shops In Edinburgh).

Books that are not in good enough condition for donation to a library or charity shop can be taken to Paper Recycling Points, as long as the front and back covers are removed. See RECYCLING POINTS.

Try to use your local library instead of buying new books. Swap books with friends, buy from charity shops or secon-hand book shops, or use websites such as Read it Swap it, a free book exchange website:

Bookdonors accept good quality books from any not-for-profit organisations e.g. community groups, charities etc:
